Papyralysis – an article by Jacob Mikanowski

A friend of mine posted a link to an article asking the question;  ‘Are paper books becoming obsolete in the digital age, or poised to lead a new cultural renaissance?’

The article, Papyralysis by Jacob Mikanowski,  is on the Los Angeles Review of Books site and is thought provoking, insightful, and beautifully written.

He talks about all sorts of issues from delving into achieves and reading the handwritten manuscript of authors long dead.  some of my favourite lines …

…  Paper is starting to feel like a Luddite affectation, on par with mustache wax or making your own yogurt.

… Milton thought that books made better receptacles for human souls than bodies.

… There’s more than a hint of idolatry in this feeling of loving the object more than the word. But so what?
